2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony

This week has been a very busy week at our house!  Corynne participated in a volleyball camp for her school volleyball team on Monday-Wednesday morning.  Seems simple enough...so I volunteered to help with the administration desk the first two days at the camp.  Not a problem!  I worked the desk with two very organized women that are both type A like me so everything was in ORDER!!!  Tyler, of course, kept a very fast paced tennis schedule with a couple of private lessons and a total of 4 clinics all in 4 days!  Not a problem!  Each afternoon there was "school" for Lauren and Lyndsey to keep us busy between orthodonist appointments and kid friend visits!

Lyndsey is working on her Math and Reading everyday.

Lauren is working on Math, Penmanship, and a Literature study of Oliver Twist  this week.

We are learning the continents and oceans together in Geography.  I pulled a cute song from the Montessori website for the girls to sing to learn the continents because everything is easier when put to music especially for a 5 year old!  I will have to record them singing it and pointing to the continents.  They are doing a great job!

On Wednesday morning, Lauren invited a sweet, friend from church over.  They had soooo much fun together playing with all the American Girls.  They set up a doll fashion show (see pic below).  I told the girls' mom that this was the quietest, easiest playdate that has ever happened at our house!!!  They were completely at peace just playing!!!!  Lauren had an awesome time, and she will definitely be inviting her back over to play again soon! 

 We also worked on an study of the Olympics this week.  We read G is for Gold Medal:An Olympic Alphabet, The 2012 London Olympics, The Story of the Olympics, and the Magic Treehouse Hour of the Olympics.  We made these torches  which were quick, fun and easy!!!

We have read a few short Olympian Biographies

Each day after we read one of these books, we completed a few lapbook mini books.  On Friday, we put together our lapbooks.

 Then it was time to cook!!!  This is our favorite school subject.  Yes, we declared it a school subject!  Every girl needs to know how to mix, bake, and prepare food!  We prepared a London Olympic Feast of Fish and Chips & Berries and Cream (because tennis is going to be at Wimbledon)!

 It was yummy.  At least JM and I thought it was!  The kids actually ate more of the processed chicken sticks than anything else ;( !

We lit up the night with homemade ice cream (mixed by Lyndsey) in the form of olympic torches!  Now we are ready to watch the Opening Ceremonies!
