Our United States Geography Adventures

During the school years of 2012-2013 and 2013-2014, we have been traveling the United States State-by-State.  We have studied one state a week.  The girls are required to know the states location, capital, state bird, state flower and state tree.  We pick up quite a few interesting facts alone the way.  We have based each weeks study on the State Alphabet books from Sleeping Bear Press.  We love the rhyme of these books which makes reading them out loud enjoyable.  

Lauren completed a scrapbook page each week.  We used the printables from Kid Zone Geography for her State Flag, State Bird, and State Flower.  We also used the State Map from Kid Zone Geography many times to record facts.

Lyndsey completed a mini state lap book each week.  I found these lap books on Currclick.com, and they are made by Fortunately For You Books.  CurrClick.com has them for each state!

At the end of the week, the girls completed a cooking project for each state.  We looked in the books The United States Cookbook and Eat Your Way Through the USA for ideas for each state.  Sometimes we chose a "state themed" restaurant like KFC for Kentucky or Red Lobster for Maine!
