The American Revolution

We began our unit on The American Revolution be reading George vs. George The American Revolution as Seen from Both Sides.  We compared everything about these 2 men from their parents and siblings, their immediate families, and their physical and mental characteristics.

With each battle of the Revolution, we reenacted the battle with our soldiers.  We also located were the battle occurred on the map and labeled it with who "won".  Then we added the battle to our timeline that we kept hanging on the wall.

The American Revolution has so many important people to learn about besides the leaders in the army. There was George Washington, King George, Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Adams, John Hancock, Patrick Henry, Paul Revere, Thomas Paine, Molly Pitcher, General Cornwallis, Clara Burton, Benedict Arnold, Nathan Hale, and Crispus Attucks to name a few.  We read books about all of these and more! The girls loved reading Molly Pitcher and hearing the stories of Deborah Sampson and Emily Geiger!  

We played a few games from the time period.

We dipped some candles.  Corynne helped us with this project!

The girls' lapbooks turned out great and full of many projects to remind them of The American Revolution.

Lauren also read the Magic Tree House Revolutionary War on Wednesday and completed a separate lapbook of comprehension questions about the book.

The girls also did an online weeklong study of Ben Franklin, and Lauren completed a lapbook with everything they learned during that extra study!  They also made a fraction patchwork kite complete with a lightning rod!

 Two girls who are very proud of the work they have accomplished in this unit!
