State-by-State: Oklahoma

Oklahoma City or OKC.
Say it either way, it's okay by me.
of course in Oklahoma, O stands for oil,
oozing from an oil well in the Oklahoma soil.

"So what's a Sooner?" you may ask.  Well, in 1889,
settlers waited for the signal to leave the starting line.
They raced to claim their land without a boundary or fence.
Some were sooner than others, and they've been Sooners ever since.

The girls and I read S is for Sooner this week as we learned about Oklahoma.  We enjoyed all the history wrapped up into this little rhyming book.  They completed their scrapbook pages again this week.
For the Sooner State, the girls made Peanut Blondie Bars from The United States Cookbook.  Oklahoma produces both the peanuts and the wheat needed to make these delicious bar cookies.
