Academy of Dance Recital

The Academy of Dance is celebrating 25 years of dance instruction under Mrs. Tammy.  It was also a farewell to Mrs. Tammy as she turns the Academy over to Mrs. Janey next year.  The girls have danced at the Academy of Dance since we moved here in 2005.  The first year (2005-2006) was just Corynne. Now, Corynne has "retired" from dance, and Lauren has moved into her spot!  Lyndsey dances for the socialization fun!!!  Colleen is requesting dance lessons next year, and we will have to see about that!!!!

Lauren's first dance was a ballet dance to Let It Be.  It is a beautiful, soft dance, and Lauren looks so graceful on stage!
Lyndsey's group performed #5 on the program Rockin' Robin.  She had fun strutting her stuff on stage.  She is a leader at all times!  If someone is not in their place, she will correct them.  Ekkkk...she is bossy!
Lauren's group was back on stage for #9 Smooth Criminal--a classy tap dance!!!

Lyndsey's ballet number this year was to Reflection.  Lyndsey is a very serious, methodical dancer.
The final dance with all the older dancers....
What a fun year with friends and great teachers!!!

State-by-State: Indiana

"Indiana is called the Hoosier State and its people are known as Hoosiers, although historians don't really know why.  People have several different ideas about the origins of the famous nickname."
-H is for Hoosier:  An Indiana Alphabet

"B can be for Basketball,
a sport for Hoosiers, short or tall.

They pass and play, dribble and dunk
into the hoop where the orange ball is sunk."
-H is for Hoosier:  An Indiana Alphabet

We decided to make our basketball goal cookies again for Indiana!  It was a great snack for all the older sibbling friends that were over at our house this afternoon!!

Happy Birthday, Lauren!

Happy 10th Birthday to our Beautiful Pink Princess!  Lauren turned 10 on Tuesday, April 30th.  Otherwise known as a SCHOOL DAY!  I tried to keep it light on her special day.  I made pancakes for the morning crew, and she opened presents after dinner!

We had to delay the party until we had a free weekend which was just a few days!  She felt like we were really late because the party was not on or before her birthday.  Can we say HIGH MAINTAINENCE!!!  She wanted to have a bowling/sleepover party!  We had a Perfectly Pink Maypole Party!
Complete with a few special friends for a sleepover.  More giggly fun than you could imagine!!!

The American Revolution

We began our unit on The American Revolution be reading George vs. George The American Revolution as Seen from Both Sides.  We compared everything about these 2 men from their parents and siblings, their immediate families, and their physical and mental characteristics.

With each battle of the Revolution, we reenacted the battle with our soldiers.  We also located were the battle occurred on the map and labeled it with who "won".  Then we added the battle to our timeline that we kept hanging on the wall.
The American Revolution has so many important people to learn about besides the leaders in the army. There was George Washington, King George, Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Adams, John Hancock, Patrick Henry, Paul Revere, Thomas Paine, Molly Pitcher, General Cornwallis, Clara Burton, Benedict Arnold, Nathan Hale, and Crispus Attucks to name a few.  We read books about all of these and more! The girls loved reading Molly Pitcher and hearing the stories of Deborah Sampson and Emily Geiger!

We played a few games from the time period.
We dipped some candles.  Corynne helped us with this project!
The girls' lapbooks turned out great and full of many projects to remind them of The American Revolution.

Lauren also read the Magic Tree House Revolutionary War on Wednesday and completed a separate lapbook of comprehension questions about the book.
The girls also did an online weeklong study of Ben Franklin, and Lauren completed a lapbook with everything they learned during that extra study!  They also made a fraction patchwork kite complete with a lightning rod!
Two girls who are very proud of the work they have accomplished in this unit!

State-by-State: Louisiana

P is for Pelican
The Pelican is a funny bird -
It catches its food in a pouch,
and when it's stuffed with a heavy load,
I'll bet that poor bird says "Ouch!"
"B is Beignet,
Sugarcoated doughnuts
served piping hot and sweet.
Children love to eat Beignets,
What a yummy treat!"
~ P is for Pelican: A Louisiana Alphabet

As soon as we read letter B, the girls knew they wanted to make beignets for dinner!  We did a very simplified doughnut dough - biscuits!  Mom was trying to be fast and use what we already had in the house!!  You are frying and adding powdered sugar to it anyway, so it is going to taste good!

Barracuda Swim Banquet

Tonight we drove back from the State Tennis Tournament in Mobile to go to a Barracuda Swim Team Banquet.  The girls have had a great time swimming for the Barracudas this year, and they have improved so much!

The coaches presented each swimmer with a Barracuda patch and T-shirt!

Then the coaches presented a few special awards.  Lyndsey was chosen to receive the Bronze Sportsmanship Award!  What an awesome year!!!
